Residents came together to give back to the environment at a community tree planting event hosted by the Village of Lynbrook on Saturday, May 2, along the Greis Park Trail. Held from 9 to 11 a.m., the event brought families, students and local volunteers out for a morning dedicated to sustainability, community spirit and environmental education.
Centered around the theme “Planting Hope, Planting Trees,” the event offered participants a hands-on opportunity to plant trees throughout the park, contributing to the village’s ongoing efforts to enhance green space and promote environmental stewardship. Volunteers of all ages worked together to plant and care for new trees, helping to improve the local landscape and support long-term ecological health.
In addition to the planting efforts, the event featured free tree giveaways, live music performances and educational activities designed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving natural resources. The combination of service and celebration created a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that encouraged community involvement and learning.
The event was held in recognition of Arbor Day, a national observance that emphasizes the value of trees and encourages communities to take part in planting and conservation efforts. First established in 1872, Arbor Day highlights the many benefits trees provide, including improving air quality, supporting wildlife habitats, reducing urban heat and enhancing the overall quality of life in communities.
By participating in the event at Greis Park, residents not only celebrated Arbor Day but also made a direct impact on their local environment. Organizers hoped the initiative would inspire continued awareness and engagement in environmental efforts throughout the year.
The strong turnout and enthusiastic participation reflected the community’s commitment to sustainability and its willingness to come together for a shared cause, leaving a lasting mark on both the park and the people who took part.
