Lynbrook Ex-Chief Kevin Bien recently accepted a $1,000 donation on behalf of Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior during a meeting of the Malverne Village Board.
The contribution was presented by Malverne firefighter Gregory Waxman, known as “Patriot Man,” from proceeds raised during the Memorial Day Freedom 5K Run. Bien serves as chairman of the Lynbrook Fire Department’s annual September fundraiser benefiting wounded warriors.
Waxman earned his nickname during the COVID-19 pandemic when he was often seen running through Malverne carrying an American flag in tribute to first responders and veterans. In 2022, he and wheelchair racer Peter Hawkins completed a 50-mile run around the village to raise awareness for veterans and first responders.
The Memorial Day Freedom 5K, launched by Waxman last year, continues that mission while supporting Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior, a nonprofit organization that has assisted wounded veterans since 2004.
