The Waverly Park Elementary School community in the Lynbrook School District took a stand against bullying and promoted inclusivity during No Name-Calling Week from Jan. 16 to 19.
Each day of the week, students expressed themselves while following a theme that encouraged them to combat hate with messages of acceptance, such as a crazy hair day. Each class also listened to “Ouch Moments” by Michael Genhart, which emphasizes the impact that hurtful words can have on those bullied. Classes then discussed how it feels to be affected by hurtful words and identified positive words that can help or heal.
