The Pride of Malverne, Malverne High School’s marching band, was the victor in the “Pursuit of Pride” marching band competition last Sunday at Malverne High School. Twelve marching bands from schools across New York State attended the competition. more

A 14-year old Malverne High School student had just left school on Wednesday when he was approached from behind by a person dressed in a purple clown costume with a white mask, red wig and brandishing a large kitchen knife. more

It was Friday afternoon during the Qualifying Tournaments week of the U.S. Open, and Long Island’s presence was found throughout the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadow Park. On Practice Court Three, 13 members of Malverne High School girls tennis team was firmly situated in the grandstand seats with their coach, Patrice Ward, examining the professionals’ techniques. “I’m looking at her serves,” said Minahil Mudassar as she and her teammates watched Venus Williams practice. “It is the most important thing in the game.” Others, like Roshni Shukla were examining other skills. “I’m looking at backhands,” said Shukla, who just joined the tennis team this year and said the two-handed backhand was the more difficult skill for her. more

Less than three years after Nassau BOCES’s regional high school in Syosset announced that it would bring concentrated studies in science, technology, engineering and math to students in Nassau and Suffolk counties, the program announced in late April that it would cease operations due to lack of funding and enrollment. more

Despite the fact that Crossroads Farm has been an integral part of life in Malverne for the past several years, a big red tractor making its way along Ocean Avenue on Oct. 27 was still a unique sight for drivers, who craned their necks to catch a glimpse as the slow-moving vehicle was escorted down the road by Malverne police. more
