The Nassau County Legislature passed a measure to redraw the current legislative map in a vote on Tuesday. Ten Republicans voted for the plan, while seven Democrats voted against it. Legislator Denise Ford, a Republican from Long Beach, was the lone dissenting voice in her party.

Under a Republican plan to redraw the Nassau County Legislature’s district lines, Democratic Legislator David Denenberg, of Merrick, would see his district –– the 19th –– merged with Legislator Joseph Scannell’s district –– the 5th. In effect, Democrats would lose a seat.
