Supermarket Bingo Nite
The Ladies Auxiliary of the West Hempstead Fire Department is hosting a Supermarket Bingo Nite on Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at the West Hempstead Fire Department, located at 295 Hempstead Turnpike. Entry is $5 person and includes four game cards, coffee, tea and dessert. Soda will be available for purchase, as will additional game cards, marker chips and raffles for gift baskets. Tickets are available at the door. Building is handicapped accessible.

E-cycling in Malverne
The Malverne Civic Association has teamed up with the Malverne Police Dept to collect unwanted firearms, ammo and unused or expired medication and drugs — no questions asked. The event will be held in conjuction with the civic's community e-cycling and document shredding event on Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Town Service Center, located on the corner of Utterby Road and Hempstead Avenue in Malverne. Bring old electronics and sensitive documents for secure data destruction and safe  “on-site” paper shredding to ensure proper recycling. This prevents toxic materials from ending up in landfills and saves our trees. The cost is free to civic members, $10 to join the MCA (on site) and $15 for non-residents. Free medical equipment
The National Amputation Foundation, located at 40 Church St. in Malverne, has a free donated durable medical equipment give-a-way program open to anyone in need. Equipment includes wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs, commodes, crutches and canes. Items must be picked up at the office. Please call (516) 887-3600 for more information.

NAACP membership meeting

Veterans' Day event
The Malverne American Legion Post 44 will conduct its annual Veterans' Day ceremonies at the gazebo at Chester Reese Park on Church Street in Malverne on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

Meet Mr. Raymond
The Malverne Historical & Preservation Society, located at 369 Ocean Ave., proudly presents the artwork of  Arthur Raymond for one weekend only. Come meet Mr. Raymond, a member of the Art League of Nassau County whose watercolor "The Apothecary Shop" was most recently honored, on Saturday, Nov. 20, and Sunday, Nov. 21, from noon to 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Craft and vendor fair
Valley Stream North High School is having its 10th Annual Craft and Vendor Fair on Sunday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 750 Herman Ave, Franklin Square. A discussion on hearing
On Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m., the Hearing Loss Association of America, formally "SHHH" will meet at the Oceanside Public Library, located at 30 Davison Ave, to hear a leading doctor of audiology discuss living better with hearing loss. Food drive
Schwartz Family Chiropractic will hold its 21st Annual Food Drive from Monday, Nov. 15, through Thursday, Nov. 18. All foods collected will be donated to Long Island Cares, a non-sectarian group that distributes food as needed. Schwartz Family Chiropractic, which collected more than 3,400 pounds of food last year, will offer all chiropractic services on those days at no charged to new patients in exchange for dry or canned foods. St. Thomas The Apostle presents its 2010 Annual Dinner Dance, Friendships Formed In Faith, on Friday, Nov. 12, at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place. Mini university
Join JCC of West Hempstead Rabbi Art Vernon for Mini University classes in October and November. The topic will be Challenges and Responses: Conflicts in Families and Communities. The JCC will be hosting a fall book, music and movie fair on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 3 to 9 p.m., and on Sunday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free. There will be thousands of books from which to choose, including best-selling authors. There will also be a media area with music on CDS, DVDS and audiocassette. The Community Presbyterian Church in Malverne is hosting the Harvest and Craft fair this year on Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 12 Nottingham Road. Everyone is invited to participate in raffles for a beautiful quilt and gift baskets, and to shop for jewelry, baked goods, tye-dyed T-shirts, attic treasures, farm-fresh vegetables and more. Book discussion

Second annual auction
Congregation Beth Israel will be holding its Second Annual Restaurant Auction on Sunday, Nov. 21. Viewing of the list of more than 125 Long Island Restaurants for the live auction will be at 12:30 p.m. and the auction will begin at 2 p.m.  There will be a silent auction and bidding on these gift certificates. Computer 1st grade for adults
The library will hold a computer workshop for adults in which they will learn how to work with text including inputting, inserting, moving and erasing, basic word processing skills, commands and dialog boxes, and setup and creation of email. It will take place on Nov .18, from 2 to 4 p.m. There is a $10 fee, to be paid in person by check only.

Family movie night
Kids ages 3 and up can come with an adult to see Toy Story 3 (Rated G) on our big screen at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 10. Pajamas welcome! Most schools are closed the next day. Register today! Please note that this movie is not in 3-D.

Home Improvement Series
The schedule of the Home Improvement Series designed to educate homeowners is as follows:
■    Basic electricity: Nov. 8, 7 to 9 p.m. Review electrical safety practices, proper use of a multimeter and how to remove and replace a switch and receptacle. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI’s) will also be introduced.
■    Basic carpentry skills: Nov. 15, 7 to 10 p.m. Even if you’re all thumbs, you’ll finish this course with confidence. Learn how to use basic hand tools as well as the safe way to use power equipment.

Concert schedule
All concerts take place on Sundays at 2 p.m. and are free.
Nov. 7: Defibrillators. Playing their original (and often times hilarious) music will have you smiling from ear to ear long after the performance.

Daytime yoga
Join the library for 10 sessions of daytime yoga on Wednesdays at noon running through Dec. 22. Present a $30 check payable to the library.

Evening yoga

Pajama storytime
Every first Monday of the month kids ages 3 to 5, can bring a teddy bear and a grown-up for stories, songs and a craft from 7 to 7:30 p.m.

Yoga for kids
Kindergarteners through fifth graders may join Diana Slattery on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 1, 2 or 3 p.m. for a yoga class in the Children's Program Room. Registration is underway. Find the right class for you and enjoy a relaxing, rejuvenating session.

Stories and More Thursdays
Children between the ages of 3 and 7 can come to the library to hear stories and play games, make crafts and more. This Stories and More Thursdays program will take place on Thursdays in November and December from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Please register in advance by calling or visiting.

Preschool activity time
Children ages 2 to 5 can interact with the librarian and other children, read stories, play games, make crafts and enjoy playtime at the library's Preschool-Daycare Acitivity Time program, which will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to noon in November and December. Library tours for children
Children in grades 6 and under and their families are encouraged to come see all that the library has to offer. Thanksgiving treats
Children between the ages of 5 and 11 are invited to make special treats that they will love to eat just in time for Thanksgiving on Wed, Nov. 24, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Please register in advance.

Holiday story crafts
Come and celebrate the holidays with stories and crafts. This program is for children between the ages of 5 and 11 and will be held on Nov. 23 and Dec. 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. Register in advance.

Game days
Children in grades 6 and under can join us for some friendly competition for game days on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. We will play Bingo on Nov. 24 and Dec. 15. Prizes will be given out. Please register in advance by calling or visiting.

Arts and crafts for kids
Children between the ages of 3 and 11 can come to the library to show off their creative talents in our arts and crafts sessions on Fridays in November and December from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Be sure to come to our Holiday Mail for Heroes session on Dec. 3 to help make the holiday of a hero special by making them a holiday card. Painting through life
On Monday, Nov. 15, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. teens in grades 7 to 12 can create their own paintings inspired by the art and life of Willem de Kooning, famous for his abstract expressionist paintings. Brought to you by the Long Island Children’s Museum and made possible by a grant from The Willem de Kooning Foundation. Register by Nov.

Teen empowerment
Teens in grades 7 to 12 can join Miss V. (Vera Miles) to build self-esteem, make healthy choices and learn how to reach goals. Meetings are Nov. 16, 17 and 23, and Dec. 8, 14, 15 and 22nd. Register in advance.

Teen yoga
Teens in grades 7 to 12 can work out and find balance and tranquility by taking a yoga class at the Lakeview Public Library. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a mat or towel. Class will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Girls mentoring program
A mentoring program for girls between the ages 12 and 16 will have an orientation on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. The program will have sessions on Saturdays, Nov. 20 and Dec. 4 and 18. Sponsored by First Things First for Health and Wellness and the Lakeview Public Library. Registration required.

Teen Advisory Group
Teens in grades 7 to 12 are encouraged to come have their voices heard and impact future programming, activities and collection acquisitions by joining the librarian and peers and becoming a valuable member of the Teen Advisory Group. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 23 from 4 to 5 p.m.

TeenTalk book discussion
"The Mourning Wars" by Karen Steinmetz will be discussed on Monday, Nov. 29 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. In this book, Eunice Williams is only seven when her Puritan village of Deerfield, Mass., is attacked by the Mohawk Indians. Captured, she is raised by a couple whose own daughter died. Years pass and she is raised as a member of the tribe. What will her decision be when her father wants her back? Discuss this and more with peers and the librarian while enjoying snacks. Books available starting Nov. 5.

Be yourself teen/tween guidance
Topics that will be discussed during the Be Yourself teen-tween guidance program include the teenage brain, why bullies bully, how to develop character and knowing your potential and possibilities. This program will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is for children in grades 5 to 12. Register by Dec. 1.
