D’Esposito ahead of Meyer in Town of Hempstead 4th district race

The Republican incumbent led Meyer by nearly 10,000 votes at midnight

Incumbent Town of Hempstead Councilman Anthony D’Esposito held a 10-point lead late Tuesday over Democratic challenger Aaron Meyer in the 4th district race.

According to preliminary results from the Nassau County Board of Elections on Tuesday night, D’Esposito had 18,104 votes and Meyer had 8,487 votes. The incumbent D’Esposito led the challenger Meyer 68 percent to 32 percent.

D’Esposito touted his efforts to improve roads and facilities across the town. The incumbent has also sponsored Narcan training programs to aid in the fight against the opioid epidemic on Long Island and led the town’s coronavirus task force.

Meyer said the town should make a greater effort to entice young people to move into the district. He has also argued that the town should use the Industrial Development Agency to support local businesses in a stronger manner.

D’Esposito promised to focus on tax relief, crime and safety and providing services for constituents. He also has committed to bolstering infrastructure to the area’s protection against future storms in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.

Absentee ballots are yet to be counted. All results are unofficial as of print time.
