An intimate, celebratory dinner at Uva Rossa marked a new year for the Malverne Chamber of Commerce. And the board is ringing in 2024 with a new co-president: Elizabeth Krull.

“Here in Malverne the objective is to shop local, to stay local, and to keep businesses thriving in our own hometown,” she said. “It is such a tight knit community. So to be able to go into the butcher, or the floral shop, or to go to the chiropractor, or go to dinner, and support business owners who are supporting our community is critical.”

She is joining co-president Maria Casini after serving as vice president. Their goal, they said, is to continue building on the chamber’s foundation and making it bigger every year.

“Together with our dedicated board, I am committed to fostering growth, supporting local businesses, and creating a vibrant community where businesses and residents thrive,” Krull said in a statement. “We look forward to working collaboratively to showcase Malverne as a fantastic place to live, work, and shop."

Krull has lived in Malverne for 15 years with her husband and her four children. She and her husband got involved with the chamber around seven years ago. She has a particular fondness for the annual chamber events like the Fall Festival, which her children love, and the Puppy Trot on Thanksgiving mornings.

“I just love getting up in the morning with my kids,” Krull said. “We put on silly hats. We head to the gazebo and we walk the dog.”

“I love them all,” she added of the events, “but that would be my favorite.”

Mayor Tim Sullivan swore in co-presidents Casini and Krull, as well as the trustees and board of directors. The board, Krull said, is an integral part of the chamber  — they bring forward new ideas, and “always bring a new and exciting spin” to existing events. It also gives Krull room to focus on her personal goal of helping connect small business owners to grant money.

“I think for me from a co-presidency standpoint,” Krull said, “Supporting the events and participating in the events is important, but I’d really like to figure out how we can add more value to businesses from a grants perspective.”

“How can you tap into these funds and bring them back to our business owners?” she added. “Make them aware of what's available to them, and get some much needed money into their doors, whether it's for beautification, improvements in technology, helping them with social media.”

Though its leadership has gotten some new additions this year, Malverne neighbors can feel confident knowing that the Chamber of Commerce is focused, as always, on its main purpose: fostering a relationship between the village, its neighbors, and its businesses.

“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Mayor Sullivan and the Nassau Council for Chambers of Commerce,” Casini said in a statement, “To ensure Malverne maintains a thriving business community that gives back to the Village through events, scholarships and more.”
