The Malverne Fire Department is being hailed as heroes after an overturned vehicle saw the rescue of a mother and two young children.

The mother and two young children suffered only minor injuries when their sport utility vehicle struck a tree on Cornwall Avenue on Feb. 5.

Under the command of Chief Kevin Garvey, all three were taken to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside, by a Northwell Health ambulance, to treat their injuries. Malverne Police Chief John Aresta was also on the scene.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but firefighters said that the road was closed off for about an hour while the scene was cleared.
