East Meadow Fire Department joined Uniondale and other departments in fighting a fire on Stewart Avenue near the Meadowbrook Parkway (M4) and the north end of Nassau Community College. Stewart Avenue was closed in the area.

Updated Feb. 28, 12:10 p.m.: Fire gutted the garage of a Loines Avenue home in Merrick on Feb. 26 and quickly spread to the house itself, sending smoke billowing throughout the home, melting the front siding and setting an SUV in the front driveway ablaze. The fire, officials said, was allegedly started by a Brentwood man who had broken into the garage between 5:30 and 6:15 a.m.

Merrick Fire Department volunteers were called to extinguish a car fire that engulfed a blue Audi that was parked at the Merrick Long Island Rail Road station in the middle of Wednesday afternoon. Black smoke billowed from the car and could be seen for blocks around. The blaze, though, was quickly contained, and it did not spread to surrounding vehicles. The cause of the fire was unclear, and no one was hurt.

Merrick Fire Department volunteers were called to extinguish a house fire that gutted a first-floor kitchen on Oakbrook Lane in Merrick on Friday. Volunteers knocked down the blaze in 15 minutes, containing it to the kitchen, but the rest of the house suffered water and smoke damage. Merrick firefighters were assisted by volunteers from the North Merrick, North Bellmore, Bellmore and Freeport fire departments.
