Attorneys for the Town of Hempstead will be in court next week defending a 2016 town law requiring gas stations to provide free compressed air to motorists. The law is currently blocked from enforcement, pending the outcome at trial.

This is the third consecutive year in which Peter Holms, proprietor of the Mobil station at 329 Merrick Ave. in Merrick, will donate a cent for every gallon of gasoline he sells in March to Camp Avenue Elementary School. He said that totals about $2,000 each year.
