PHOTOS: Fall fun and fanfare in the heart of Merrick

The annual fall festival in Merrick was back with a bang this year, as hundreds took to Merrick Avenue to enjoy the sites, smells and fun of the beloved fair.

Hosted by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce from Oct. 20-22, locally owned businesses packed the streets, along with outside vendors. Whether you were looking for a great gift for the holiday season, or delicious street food, there was something for everyone.

The fair stretched from Sunrise Highway, north on Merrick Avenue, ending just after Chatterton School. In the Long Island Rail Road Parking lot, there was also a carnival with rides for kids and families to enjoy.

More than just businesses packed the streets though. Local scouting groups, elected officials, civic organizations, religious institutions, charities, nonprofits and nature groups also took part in the fun. And this year, Sanford H. Calhoun’s football team was also spreading the word about sudden cardiac arrest in athletes, raising money for a great cause.

Fall festivals like the one in Merrick help chambers raise money for future activities throughout the year. Visit MerrickChamber.com to learn about upcoming things this year, and next, at home in Merrick.
