Fire in Merrick destroys home on Lindgren Street

Several departments on the scene extinguished aggressive house fire; one firefighter treated for heat exhaustion

A fire broke out in a Merrick residence last night, engulfing a home and injuring one firefighter. 

According to the Nassau County Police Department, officers responded to a house fire on Lindgren Street on July 3 around 10:15 in Merrick.  The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and suffered extensive damage. 

The Merrick, Freeport, and Bellmore fire departments, along with other mutual aid, assisted in extinguishing the fire. A firefighter from Merrick suffered heat exhaustion and was treated on the scene by a police medic. 

On social media, the Merrick Fire Department said, "Volunteers made an aggressive attack on the fire which apparently started in the basement and spread to all floors of the house. Occupants of the home escaped with no injuries and one firefighter was treated at the scene by EMS."

The fire is being investigated by the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office. At this time, it is unclear what started the fire.
