Flowers take root on Merrick Avenue

The beautification project brought together State Sen. Michael Venditto, Eileen Hinrichs, Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads, Zack Lubinsky, Sally Boggan, Linda Alterson, NCMCA President Claudia Borecky, Michael Borecky and Nadine Scharman-Decolator. Borecky, a Democrat, will challenge Rhoads, a Republican, this fall for his seat in the Legislature.

The North and Central Merrick Civic Association organized a team of local volunteers to plant flowers and remove weeds and litter on May 30 along Merrick Avenue.
The association maintains many of the trees that line the sidewalk. Working with shovels and spades, the volunteers spent a Saturday morning helping to beautify the Merricks’ central business district.
