State Sen. Todd Kaminsky announced a $100 thousand grant for the Island Park Public Library June 10.

The grant will be used to help improve the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units in the building.

“We have three units,” Island Park library director Jessica Koenig said. “The small and medium units both are at the end of their lives. And we’re very happy to be able to replace those units,”

Replacing the small unit is necessary because it heats the community room and all of the programs are in that room. When Koeing found out about the grant, she immediately brought it to the library board’s attention.

“When I heard that we had access to this grant, I knew right away that I would want to suggest to the board that we that we use the grant for the air conditioning units,” she said. “It’s something that’s extremely helpful for the building, helpful for the safety, comfort, and well-being of the community.”

Kaminsky secured this fund because of the importance of investing in the Island Park community.

“Investing in our communities and the children who live here is vital to keeping Island Park an amazing place to live,” Kaminsky said. “I was happy to secure this funding from Albany so that we can make needed improvements to such a fundamental establishment for the community while keeping taxes down.”
