Three trees down in North Bellmore, homes damaged

On July 12, three trees fell down around 3:30 p.m. on Albemarle Avenue in North Bellmore, causing significant damage to homes and utility polls. The Bellmore Fire Department, Nassau County Police Department, and PSEG responded.

According to the NCPD, one of the trees fell in the direction of the Long Island Railroad train tracks, but did not cause service problems. The other two trees fell towards the street. This was not a weather related incident.

The trees fell towards the street and damaged power lines and homes. They caused a gas leak in one of the houses. Live wires left significant burn marks on properties.

Aside from causing physical damage, the trees also caused a temporary power outage. About 425 homes were affected, and there were outages as far south as Merrick Road. By around 6:30 p.m., power had been restored to those effected.

At 6:30 pm., the Bellmore Fire Department left the scene. The NCPD said that it will take about three days to clean up the remaining damage.
