To kids' delight

The temperature's in the mid-30s. There's a foot of snow on the ground. There's no school. What to do?

For Bellmore-Merrick kids, the answer was obvious: Go sledding at Newbridge Road Park in Bellmore.

Last Thursday morning, with the sun beaming over a sheet of white, dozens of local children were zipping down the park's big hill on plastic sleds, inner tubes and even snowboards. And the Herald was there to catch the action.

The day of fun followed a heavy winter storm that roared into Long Island early Wednesday morning and dumped an estimated 12 inches of snow and ice on Bellmore-Merrick. School was canceled for two days. And more of the white stuff fell on Tuesday, as the Herald was going to press.
