The Sea Cliff Arts Council held its annual Plein air, painting in the outdoors, event, where residents were invited to compete by painting locations in the village. Resident Warren Jacobson won the contest, with his pastel drawing “Cliff Way,” depicting Sea Cliff’s street with that name.
Competitors were given from 9 a.m. on Sept. 19 until 5 p.m. on Sept. 20 to complete their paintings. Rainy weather on Sept. 20, according to arts council Public Relations Coordinator Heidi Hunt, led to “beautiful, moody scenes of misty water views and even a painting of a puddle.”
The arts council held the artists reception celebrating the competition’s participants on Oct. 3 in combination with the organization’s fourth anniversary. Hunt coordinated the event, which was sponsored by Jonathan Sherman of Sherman Art Conservation. Nicolas Graille, of the Jules Lazare Gallery in New York City, judged the competition.
Resident Miranda Best was named first runner up for her pastel drawing “Clifton Park,” focused on a tall tree and the baseball diamond in the village’s Clifton Park. Peter Primont’s oil painting “Sea Cliff Pride” led him to be named second runner up.
