With fall right around the corner, local organizations like the Planting Fields Foundation are gearing up for the season with numerous events, from educational lectures to balling out on the golf course to getting serenaded by talented musicians. Here are three things to know about events at Planting Fields:

1. Foundation will hold its annual Golf Classic
The Planting Fields Foundation’s 12th Annual Golf Classic is scheduled for Sept. 29, at The Mill River Club in Oyster Bay.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., followed by brunch at 10:30 a.m. The golf shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m., with dinner and cocktails beginning at 5:30 p.m. Raffles will be available throughout the day, with winners announced during dinner.

The event is a fundraiser for the Planting Fields Foundation, with proceeds supporting programming for learners of all ages and abilities at the 409-acre historic site.

Participation options include a foursome for $2,300, a single golfer for $575 and dinner and cocktails only for $195. Sponsorship opportunities range from $1,200 to $5,000.

2. An author will explore the history of America’s evergreens
The foundation’s Creative Spirits series will continue Oct. 1, with Evergreen: The Story of the Trees That Shaped America from 6 to 8 p.m. inside the Main House.

The $35 event will feature Trent Preszler, a Cornell University professor and author of "Evergreen: The Trees That Shaped America."

The book examines the history, culture and ecology of evergreen trees and their connections to American industries, traditions and landscapes.

The evening begins with doors opening at 6 p.m., followed by self-guided exploration of the first floor of the Main House and a complimentary Evergreen Spritz. Preszler’s presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a question-and-answer session and a book signing.

3. Notes in Nature returns with a woodwind quintet
Planting Fields will host “Notes in Nature: Serenade & Celebration” on Oct. 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. inside the Main House.

Tickets cost $45 in advance or $50 at the door if seats are available. The price includes a complimentary glass of wine, and reservations are required.

The program will feature Jacques Ibert’s "3 Pièces brèves," Mozart’s "Serenade in C minor," "K. 388," Valerie Coleman’s "Tzigane" and Carl Nielsen’s "Wind Quintet Op. 43."

The concert is part of the second season of Notes in Nature, a five-concert chamber music series presented by Planting Fields Foundation in collaboration with Long Island Chamber Music.

The concert will take place rain or shine, and tickets are final sale.
