The theme for November at St. Agnes Cathedral School was “service for others.” Students at the school conducted a letter writing campaign to the soldiers overseas, had a soup lunch from which the proceeds were donated to the Parish Service Center, collected food items for the needy in Rockville Centre and had a traditional Thanksgiving para-liturgy service.

Stephen’s House of the New York Foundling was officially dedicated on Nov. 17. Not far from the Verrazano Bridge on Staten Island, the $14.5 million dollar, five-story building was named in honor of firefighter Stephen Siller, a former Rockville Centre resident who, like many first responders, gave his life on Sept. 11 so that others might live.

The Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Parade Committee has chosen the local-based chapter of a nationwide charity as one of the three organizations it will support through the event, scheduled for March 20.

Once again, runners from Rockville Centre will participate in the Tunnel to Towers Run/Walk on Sept. 27, hosted by The Stephen Siller, FDNY ‘Let Us Do Good” Children’s Foundation. Held annually, this event celebrates the life and legacy of all those who died on Sept. 11, 2001. By taking part in the 5K run, participants retrace the final steps of firefighter Stephen Siller, who lived in Rockville Centre for a number of years as a young boy, as he ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in an attempt to help those trapped inside the World Trade Center during the attacks that day.
