Day One of charging resident commuters an extra $4 a day for use of the Front Street parking lot got off to a noticeably slow start on Monday, as the lot, usually full at an early hour, had a number of empty spaces long after the commuter rush had ended. On Day Two there were about the same number of cars in the lot after the morning commute.

Wilson Elementary School’s third, fourth and fifth grade students participated in the Cycle with Care program on Sept. 14, during Bicycle Safety Week. The annual program is initiated by the Rockville Centre Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with the RVC police. It is taken to each of the five Rockville Centre elementary schools under the auspices of the RVC PTA.

Members with the Wounded Warrior Project held their annual picnic in Eisenhower Park on Sept. 21.
A local ambassador for the organization, Paul Hastings, accepted a $15,000 donation from the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association. “It was an awesome turnout,” said Hastings, “and it was a more than generous donation from the PBA.”

Saying it is bowing to budget constraints, the Village of Rockville Centre will now charge resident commuters $4 a day starting Oct. 4 to park in the Front Street lot, the only municipal parking field not owned by the village.

Sept 4: Fears of extensive flooding, power outages and property damage fizzled on Friday as Hurricane Earl passed far enough out to sea that Nassau County suffered little more than scattered beach flooding.
Even Jones Beach State Park, where extensive flooding was reported, had some areas open for swimming today and the Stone Temple Pilots concert planned for tonight at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater will take place as scheduled.
