When Ryan and Alyson Clark’s dog Kenny was attacked by a neighbor’s dog in December 2007, they were shocked, but relieved when their dog Kenny came away with only a few scratches. But when the same dog attacked Kenny again in April of this year, and actually injured him, they knew they had to do something.

In its first official meeting of the new school year, members of the Board of Education were joined by district administrators, teachers, staff, parents and students for the annual inspection of the district's high school, middle school and its five elementary schools. A group of about 30 people met outside the administrative offices in South Side High School on Sept. 2, where the day-long tour started promptly at 8:30 a.m.

But now it’s up to 5th District Conservative voters to decide who will represent them in the November election.

As Rockville Centre’s children head back to school, Ronald Hailparn is enjoying his month off from class.
The 83-year-old Rockville Centre resident just finished off the summer session in the Personal Enrichment in Retirement (PEIR) program at Hofstra University, and is looking forward to relax before the next session begins in October.

In recognition of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, which aims to increase the community’s understanding of the grief associated with the loss of an unborn or newborn child, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Perinatal Bereavement Team will host the sixth annual Walk to Remember on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 9 a.m. at Field 5 of Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.

Long Island Rail Road commuters from Rockville Centre are invited to participate this September in a major food drive to help our many neighbors struggling through this deep recession. September is Hunger Action Month and Island Harvest is teaming up with the Long Island Rail Road and Long Island Cares in an effort to work together to end hunger. They’re asking residents to bring non-perishable food, personal care items, and/or school supplies to the Rockville Centre LIRR station each Wednesday in September. A food bins will be conveniently located and staffed by friendly volunteers.
