A thank you luncheon in Rockville Centre

The students and faculty of South Side High School’s School-to-Work Vocational Program held their annual Jobsite Appreciation Luncheon on June 5. According to South Side High School special education teacher/vocational coordinator Tara McElynn, the luncheon is held to allow Core 1 and Core 2 students to thank the people they worked with while participating in the program.

The program includes approximately 25 different jobsites in the community such as CVS, the library, both area hospitals (Mercy Medical Center and South Nassau Communities Hospital) and local food establishments. Students spend half of each school day at these job sites. Some go to the same job all five days, while others go to multiple locations. All jobs are individualized, depending on the needs of the employer and the student.

The attire for the luncheon was “dress to impress.” To thank employers, students worked with speech teachers to prepare speeches that they read during the event. For more information about the School-to-Work Vocational Program, contact Tara McElynn at Tmcelynn@rvcschools.org.
