Celebrating Central Synagogue of Nassau County

Posted

Nearly 150 people packed the Kahn auditorium of Central Synagogue of Nassau County on May 14 for a gala dinner to celebrate the 75th anniversary of its founding.

The event honored the synagogue’s current and past presidents — a number of whom attended. For others who couldn’t be there, family members, some of whom live far from Long Island, represented their loved ones at the event that simultaneously looked back at the temple’s legacy of social involvement — and forward to a future of active participation in the community.

Trustees Ed Oppenheimer and David Krasula, who is running for a second term on the board, were on hand to present a proclamation from the village.

Mary Bossart, who is seeking a second term as mayor, was unable to attend — her son Christopher was graduating from college. But Bossart did speak at the May 13 Shabbat service, which honored long-standing members of the congregation, and kicked off the weekend of celebrations. Francis X. Murray, who is challenging Bossart, also attended the Saturday evening festivities.
