For their 25th anniversary celebration, the Center for Science is introducing three new life-like prehistoric additions open to the public beginning August 7. Visitors get the chance to spend time with their new robotic Lessemsaurus and two Coelophysis dinosaurs. Visitors also have access to the other robotic displays of dinosaurs and a Live Animals Exhibit.
“The 25th anniversary is more than a milestone – it’s a tribute to our mission of providing hands-on, fun and engaging science education and experiences,” said Ray Ann Havasy, Founder of the Center for Science. “By blending science with excitement, we fascinate learners of all ages and inspire the next generation of explorers and scientists.”
One of the lesser-known sauropods from the Late Triassic of Argentina, the Lessemsaurus is considered a “gentle giant.” This dinosaur display stretches over 15 feet in length and showcases the early evolution of long-necked dinosaurs.
The Coelophysis happens to be one of the earliest known dinosaur species. Quite different from the Lessemsaurus, they are lightweight predators. With their sharp teeth and sleek body, they’re well adapted for speed and agility.
Since the center’s opening in 2017, the dino exhibit has become the largest permanent collection of robotic dinosaurs in New York State. Soon they will be featuring 15 animatronic dinosaurs alongside 40 live animals. They also display 23 dinosaurs, both full and partial skeletons, floor-to-ceiling hand-painted prehistoric murals and interactive educational stations.
The Dinosaurs! and Live Animals Exhibit is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding Wednesdays. Tickets can be purchased online or on-site pricing $15 for adults, $12 for children under 10, and free for children under one.
