Cops find another suspicious vehicle in RVC

The Rockville Centre Police Department responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle on N. Village Avenue on Saturday morning, which prompted the deployment of the Nassau County Police Department’s Bomb Squad as a precautionary measure.

“I want to reassure you that, following a thorough examination, the bomb squad had deemed the vehicle to be non-threatening,” Rockville Centre Police Commissioner Randy Dodd stated in a letter to residents. “Subsequent investigations and interviews with the individuals involved have shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Authorities indicate that the vehicle broke down on the roadside, due to its poor condition and disrepair. The owner decided to remove the plates and leave the scene. After police officers arrived at the scene, the Nassau County Bomb Squad was called in to clear the vehicle, which was impounded for a more detailed examination.

Detectives have since interviewed the individuals associated with the vehicle, who police officials say have been forthcoming and cooperative throughout the investigation.

“I can confirm that no hazardous materials or items of concern were found during the subsequent search,” Dodd said in his letter. “While situations like this can be unsettling it is important to highlight the collaborative efforts of our community and law enforcement. The reporting of the suspicious vehicle and swift response allowed us to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure the safety of Rockville Centre.”

Police did not indicate whether the most recent incident was related to a similar incident that occurred last week, when an unmarked vehicle was found with a poster of Saddam Hussein and writing on the hood, which read “when you close your eyes, everyone is blind.”
