Dick Hyman
Pianist and jazz icon Dick Hyman performs at Molloy College’s Madison Theatre, concluding its inaugural season on Friday. Best-known for his versatility with jazz piano and composing for numerous Woody Allen films, Hyman continues to enthrall audiences with his musical mastery honed during a celebrated career of more than 50 years. The program will include variations on Scott Joplin, novelty pieces by Zez Confrey, and plenty of Gershwin, Ellington, Porter, Rodgers and other composers of the Great American Songbook, along with some Beatles tunes. “Dick Hyman’s Century Of Jazz Piano,” an encyclopedic series of solo performances, has recently been released on Arbors Records.

Adelphi Chorus
The 80-voice ensemble takes to the stage for a concert of 20th century French masterworks and a selection of joyful contemporary and traditional works written or arranged by American composers. The chorus peforms Fauré’s exquisite “Cantique de Jean Racine,” followed by Poulenc’s stunning “Gloria,” with Adelphi music major Hannah Hockett as soprano soloist. The second half features Daniel Pinkham’s “Wedding Cantata,” a setting of texts from the Song of Solomon. American spirituals and folk songs, arranged by Walker, Leavitt, Paulus and Hogan bring the concert to a rousing conclusion.
