Friends gather for fair

On Oct. 16 and 17, the Church of the Ascension held its annual Friendship Fair to raise funds and provide an opportunity for community members to meet and greet.

The fair featured new and used jewelry, hand-made crafts, books, toys, collectibles, antiques and other bargain-priced items. Delicious fresh food was also available. There were special auctions and raffles for prizes including products, services and meals.

On Saturday, there were special pumpkin carving and decorating activities for kids. There were also guided tours of the church and demonstrations of its pipe organ.

In addition to benefiting the church, 30 percent of the proceeds raised went to the Building Fund of Camp ANCHOR (the Town of Hempstead's camp for children with disabilities) and Island Harvest (the largest hunger relief organization on Long Island).
