Junior Firefighters help with the snow

One of the most important responses to a major snow storm is the Department of Public Works keeping roads open so that, in the event of an emergency, appropriate response personnel and apparatus can safely arrive at the scene in a timely matter.

For the fire department responding to a call, one of the first priorities is finding and gaining access to a fire hydrant. While residents and businesses are encouraged to clear fire hydrants on their property, not all do. This past snow storm, the fire department received a great service from the department’s Junior Firefighters who went above and beyond by traveling around the village and shoveling out fire hydrants.

“Instead of enjoying the snow day, these young men and woman provided a tremendous service to village residents and businesses, assuring their safety,” said Department Chief John Thorp.
