Broadway veteran Ken Jennings brought a deeply personal and spiritual performance to the St. Agnes Parish Center, presenting his critically acclaimed one-man production of “The Gospel of John.”

Delivered entirely from memory, the April 19 performance offered an intimate retelling of the biblical text, drawing the audience into what many have described as a moving and reflective experience.

Jennings, who memorized the Gospel during a challenging period in his life as a form of prayer, approached the production as more than a traditional stage performance. Rather than relying on elaborate sets or multiple actors, he framed the show as a storytelling event, allowing the emotional and spiritual depth of the text to take center stage. His delivery emphasized the humanity and divinity woven throughout the Gospel, resonating strongly with those in attendance.

The staging itself remained intentionally minimal and was complemented by moody lighting. These understated elements created a quiet, contemplative atmosphere that kept the focus squarely on Jennings’ narration and the power of the scripture.

Jennings had long sought to bring the Gospel to life in a way that felt accessible and meaningful. He described the production as an offering to churches and community venues and an opportunity for reflection and connection. Throughout the performance, themes of light and darkness, as well as the divinity of Jesus, were brought into sharp focus.
