Riverside Elementary School gave winter one final sendoff, as its Grade 4 and 5 drama club staged a lively performance of “Bring on the Snow!” just days before the arrival of spring.
The spirited production served as a celebration of the season and literacy week, complete with laughter, music and a flurry of imaginative scenes that delighted an audience of proud families and staff.
The 30-minute musical and variety show on March 13 featured a mix of two-part songs, winter-themed puns and comedic skits that kept the crowd engaged throughout. Students brought to life a cast of quirky characters, including wisecracking reindeer and a family of directionally challenged geese, while scenes like a graceful snowflake ballet and the playful “Freeze-Whiz” game show added variety and humor to the performance.
At the heart of the show was a simple, relatable theme: the excitement and anticipation of a long-awaited snow day. Through energetic musical numbers and lively dialogue, the young performers captured the joy of winter weather and the fun it brings. The production featured music by noted composers Andy Beck, Brian Fisher, Sally K. Albrecht and Jay Althouse, giving students the chance to showcase both their vocal and theatrical talents.
The cast was guided by club advisors Kirsten Ruvolo, the school’s music teacher, and Caroline O’Connor, a teacher assistant, who worked closely with students in the weeks leading up to the performance. Through rehearsals, students dedicated themselves to learning lines, mastering songs and building confidence on stage.
