Sunshine, school spirit and a blowout victory made for a memorable Homecoming at South Side High School last Saturday, as the Cyclones took over the streets of Rockville Centre with an “On Vacation”-themed parade before rolling to a 40-7 win over Clarke.
The parade traveled north along North Long Beach Road before turning onto Shepherd Street and making its way into the high school. The procession featured the South Side marching band, students representing each of the school’s four classes with their own themed banners, cheerleaders, youth football players and their cheerleaders.
Members of the South Side football team rode to the high school aboard fire and pickup trucks, adding to the excitement as the parade made its way through the community.
The festivities continued at the school, where games and activities gave students, families and other attendees opportunities to participate and enjoy themselves before the football game.
The Cyclones provided another reason to celebrate, improving to 2-0 with a 40-7 victory over winless Clarke in a Nassau Conference III matchup. South Side built a commanding 34-0 lead by halftime and continued its strong start to the program’s 100th season.
A.J. Magaraci led the Cyclones on the ground, rushing for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Rob Cesario Jr. threw for 87 yards and two touchdowns, while Regan Petrone and Ethan Johnson also scored touchdowns.
Through their first two games, the Cyclones have outscored their opponents 76-7, continuing their strong opening to the season.
During halftime, South Side recognized two of its newest Hall of Fame inductees. Former longtime Athletic Director Carol Roseto, who led the department from 2009 to 2024, was honored alongside Olivia Rodriguez, a multi-sport athlete.
The day brought together generations of South Side students, athletes and supporters, with the parade, community activities, Hall of Fame recognition and a decisive victory making for a memorable Homecoming celebration.
