People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrest

Shamel Campbell, 24, of Maryland Avenue, Freeport, was arrested on Sept. 23 at 3: 30 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of stolen property. Police say they arrested Campbell after they stopped him on Peninsula Boulevard for failing to signal a lane change and a routine computer check of the vehicle registration revealed that the car he was driving had been reported stolen in Hempstead on July 31.

Criminal mischief

On Sept 24 at 12:45 p.m., a 76-year-old woman told police that someone scratched the paint on the passenger side of her car, which was parked in the Morgan Days lot at Maine Avenue and Peninsula Boulevard.

At 3:30 p.m on Sept. 26, a Raymond Street resident reported to police that someone slashed all four tires of his car, which was parked in his driveway.

Larcenies

On Sept. 9 at 4:20 p.m. an employee at the Verizon Wireless store, 265 Sunrise Highway reported to police that she discovered that someone had apparently stolen a working cell phone from a display counter inside the store.

At 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 10, a women told police that someone stole the registration plates from her car which was parked in Municipal Parking Field 12 on Sunrise Highway.

On Sept. 10 at 2:40 p.m. a man told police that someone stole a Garmin GPS device from his car while the vehicle was being serviced at Lexus of Rockville Centre, 700 Sunrise Highway.

At 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 12, a man reported to police that someone stole several credit cards from his car, which was parked in the lot at Skelos Field, and used two of them to make purchase totaling approximately $2,600.

Also on Sept. 12 at 11:05 p.m, a man told police that someone broke into his car, which was parked in the lot of TGI Friday’s, 716 Sunrise Highway, and stole a Tom Tom GPS device.
