Over $21,000 was raised for SIBSPlace during its eighth annual “Rock for SIBS” fundraiser held at Press 195 in Rockville Centre.
The event on May 15 generated $21,495 to support SIBSPlace’s prevention-based mental health support and bereavement programs for children and families coping with cancer, devastating illness or the loss of a loved one.
Guests gathered for an evening of live music, food, raffles and prizes, with performances by local bands Trainwreck and Ladies of the 80s, featuring music from the 1970s and 1980s. Funds were raised through sponsorships, ticket sales and a 50/50 raffle.
SIBSPlace provides free mental health support and bereavement services for children ages 5 to 17 who have a sibling or parent with cancer or another serious medical diagnosis, as well as children grieving the death of a sibling or parent. The organization offers group counseling programs and support services for parents and caregivers.
“The annual ‘Rock for SIBS’ has become one of our most anticipated events by our community,” SIBSPlace executive director Joanna Formont said in a statement. “The generosity shown by our sponsors, guests and supporters directly funds the services we provide to children navigating some of the most difficult experiences imaginable.”
Formont added that the fundraiser helps ensure children facing family illness or loss are able to access support services at no cost.
