Rockville Centre remembers the fallen on Memorial Day

Posted

In-person festivities returned to Rockville Centre with a bang, as the village’s Memorial Day Parade was characterized by a joyous marching band and smiling, unmasked faces from the increasingly vaccinated population.

Local officials and residents marched for and honored the military heroes of the village’s and nation’s past and present.

State Sen. Todd Kaminksy, Mayor Francis Murray, Deputy Mayor Kathleen Baxley, Trustee Emilio Grillo and Town of Hempstead Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, among many others, strolled through the village with American flags in-hand.

The Rockville Centre Fire Department, a fully-volunteer force, and the Police Department paraded the stars and stripes throughout the village and to the 9/11 memorial in the Village Green along Maple Avenue.

At the Maple Avenue event, a solemn salute was given for those lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, with the 20th anniversary approaching later this year.

Murray, donned his Fire Department dress uniform, and addressed those in attendance, honoring the village’s past heroes and all those who died serving their country.
