Rockville Centre residents had their say in choosing the village’s spookiest Halloween displays, voting for their favorites in the Rockville Centre Civic Association’s 2026 Halloween Decorating Contest.

The public vote produced three winners across residential and commercial categories, recognizing the creativity of residents and a local business that helped bring Halloween spirit to the village.

Scott Fatscher, of 250 North Long Beach Road, won the Spookiest Display award for his House of Horrors, an elaborate graveyard illuminated by vivid purple and green lighting.

Skeletons, monstrous figures and winged creatures filled the front yard, with a towering skeleton standing prominently near the house. Smaller creatures perched atop decorative pedestals, while tombstones, skulls and chains added to the haunted atmosphere. The colorful lighting transformed the property into a glowing Halloween scene against the evening sky.

The Lavas family, of 233 Raymond St., earned the Family-Friendly Display award for its Pumpkin Patch entry, surrounding its home with a sea of illuminated jack-o’-lanterns.

Dozens of carved pumpkins lined the front porch, framing the entrance in a bright orange glow. More jack-o’-lanterns filled the lawn and clustered around the shrubs, while a small tree decorated with glowing pumpkin faces extended the display toward the driveway. Ghostly figures hung from a neighboring tree, and a towering black-clad figure, a bright green character and a Minion-themed vehicle added playful touches to the Halloween scene.

The display blended traditional pumpkin decorations with whimsical characters, creating a festive neighborhood attraction that celebrated Halloween without leaning too heavily on fright.

Leonardo’s Hair Design, at 126 North Long Beach Road, received the Best Local Business award for its Main Street Mayhem display, representing the commercial entry in the contest.

The contest gave residents and local businesses an opportunity to showcase their Halloween creativity, while the public vote determined which displays earned recognition from the community.

The winning entries were featured on the Rockville Centre Civic Association’s website.
