Posted

South Side High School sophomore Adam Moss received a citation from Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano on Nov. 10 for his support of diabetes research, his commitment to educating his peers about treatments for diabetes and his efforts to share his life experiences as a diabetic. In recognition of World Diabetes Day, Nassau County hosted a “Bring Diabetes to Light” event and illuminated the county building in blue light to create awareness of the disease.

Living with diabetes since he was 5 years old, Adam, a Youth Ambassador for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, was invited to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and speak about his life with diabetes at the event.

Adam has been an advocate for JDRF since 2005 and has formed his own walk team, Adam’s Allies. This year Adam and his brother Evan worked tirelessly together to raise $12,542 in donations for JDRF. Evan sent a mass mailing out to friends and families in honor of his bar mitzvah, organizing a walk that took place at SUNY Old Westbury on Oct. 20. The boys were joined by friends and family in

a strong show of support.

Since 2005, Adam and his team have raised a total of $65,216 for diabetes research.
