Rockville Centre resident Alyssa Davoli has been promoted to principal of Nassau BOCES Carman Road School, where she previously served as assistant principal.
Carman Road School provides educational services for students with multiple disabilities. The school offers small-ratio classes and uses technology and individualized instruction to support students in areas including language, academic readiness, social competence and activities of daily living. Students also participate in adapted physical education, specialized programs, community involvement and field trips.
Davoli began her career as a substitute teacher for mainstream and special education programs in the North Bellmore Union Free School District. She later worked at the Hagedorn Little Village School in Seaford as a special education teacher and certified teacher assistant.
She then joined the New York City school system as a self-contained special education teacher at Hunts Point School (M.S. 424) in the Bronx.
Davoli joined Nassau BOCES Carman Road School nearly 10 years ago as a preschool-primary special education teacher. She later served as a curriculum teacher before becoming assistant principal and then principal.
“My experience with Nassau BOCES has provided me with a deeper understanding of our Long Island school community,” Davoli said. “As a result, I have developed greater insight into our students’ strengths, as well as the skills to foster and expand their opportunity for success.”
Throughout her career as a special educator and administrator, Davoli has worked with a variety of instructional programs and tools, including Applied Behavior Analysis, Frontline, PowerSchool, Next Generation Standards, Reading A-Z, Fundations, Boardmaker Online, Unique Learning System, SymbolStix, Handwriting Without Tears and STAR.
She has also worked with colleagues on implementing the New York State Alternate Assessment, an annual assessment for students with the most severe cognitive disabilities.
“I am deeply committed to teaching and learning,” Davoli said. “I intend to build upon the strong foundation of Carman Road School by working collaboratively with staff to implement best practices, support high-quality instruction, and ensure that each student is taught the skills they need to succeed.”
Davoli holds a master’s degree in early childhood special education, with an annotation in severe and multiple disabilities, and a bachelor’s degree in child study and speech from St. Joseph’s College.
She holds New York State certifications in early childhood education, early childhood education for students with disabilities, severe and multiple disabilities, school district leadership and school building leadership. She also holds advanced certifications in school district leadership and school building leadership from the College of St. Rose.
