RVC honors police with blue street line

“The thin blue line got a bit thicker this week,” said Police Commissioner Charles Gennario at a village board meeting held on Dec. 5. “And I want to thank you for that.”

That is because the previous week, village officials honored the Rockville Centre Police Department by painting a blue street line in front of police headquarters on Maple Avenue.

“It sends a message that needs to be sent,” said Village Trustee Michael Sepe. “With all that’s going on in the country, we are a community that values the people that protect us.”

Village resident Claire Ryan approached Mayor Francis Murray with the idea for the line while he was standing in the Front Street Bakery. Less than two weeks later, Maple Avenue had new line painted between the street’s yellow lines.

“We want the police department to know we support them more than ever in these times,” said Mayor Murray while standing next to village police headquarters. “The police department takes care of all our residents and business owners.”

At the Dec. 5 meeting, Gennario spoke on behalf the department and the Police Benevolent Association in extending their thanks to village officials for the recognition.

“And thank you, Claire!” finished the commissioner.
