Dreams really did come true on the St. Agnes Cathedral School stage last week as more than 60 student performers brought the magic of Disney to life in the school’s production of “Dare to Dream.”

The musical revue presented April 30 and May 1-2, featured students in grades 5 through 8 singing and dancing through a collection of beloved Disney songs, making St. Agnes the first school on Long Island to stage the production. From princess ballads to upbeat ensemble numbers, the show transported audiences through some of Disney’s most iconic films and memorable musical moments.

Under the direction of Kim Dufrenoy — who served as director, choreographer and music director — students performed favorites including “Be Our Guest,” “Let It Go,” “Friend Like Me,” “Surface Pressure,” “Go the Distance,” and “Hakuna Matata.” Michele Palmer served as stage manager, helping coordinate the ambitious three-night production.

The cast featured a mix of soloists, dancers and ensemble performers, with full-company numbers opening and closing the show. Songs from “Frozen,” “Moana,” “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Encanto,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Hercules,” and other Disney classics gave each student a chance to shine on stage.

Families, friends and community members packed the audience each evening, cheering on the young performers as they delivered energetic choreography, colorful performances and heartfelt vocals. Months of rehearsals and preparation were evident throughout the production, which blended humor, emotion and plenty of Disney magic.
