October brings plenty of opportunities for Rockville Centre residents to get out and enjoy the community as the weather begins to cool, with events ranging from Halloween celebrations to an Oktoberfest fundraiser and a monthlong spooky attraction. Whether you are looking for a family-friendly afternoon, a Halloween-themed evening or a chance to support local programs while enjoying food and music, there are several dates to keep on the calendar. Here are three October events worth knowing about, including a popular seasonal attraction, the village’s annual Halloween celebration and a fundraiser featuring live entertainment and German-inspired festivities for residents of all ages.
1: Tanglewood prepares for spooky weekends
Spooky Fest returns to the Center for Science Teaching & Learning at Tanglewood Preserve for four weekends in October. The Halloween-themed event is scheduled for Oct. 2-4, 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25, from 6 to 9 p.m. Families can experience the Enchanted Forest, along with crafts, face painting and other activities. For those seeking more scares, Spooky Woods offers a scarier attraction. The event gives families several opportunities throughout the month to celebrate Halloween in an outdoor setting. Tanglewood Preserve is located at 1450 Tanglewood Road in Rockville Centre. Advance tickets and additional event information are available through the Center for Science Teaching & Learning’s website.
2: Backyard Players raises the bar for Oktoberfest
Backyard Players & Friends will hold its fourth annual Oktoberfest fundraiser on Oct. 10, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the St. Agnes Parish Center. The event will feature food, drinks, raffles and live music from Jerry & The Newcomers. Proceeds will support Backyard Players’ recreational and community programs. The fundraiser offers residents an opportunity to enjoy an evening of music and food while helping support the organization’s programs. The event is open to adults and includes traditional Oktoberfest-themed festivities. The St. Agnes Parish Center will host the evening, giving attendees a local setting to gather, listen to live music and support Backyard Players & Friends.
3: Halloween celebration brings costumes, fun and more
Rockville Centre’s Halloween Parade and Party is scheduled for Oct. 25 at the John A. Anderson Recreation Center in Veterans Park. The family-oriented celebration will feature a costume parade, music, dancing, games, goodie bags, pretzels and drinks. Registration is already underway through the Rockville Centre RecDesk portal, with openings available for residents who want to participate. The annual event gives children and families a chance to celebrate Halloween together in a festive community setting. Costumes will be part of the festivities as participants take part in the parade and other activities throughout the day. It promises an afternoon of Halloween fun for the whole family.
