Zoning approval for Jackson Avenue townhouses extended

The Town of Hempstead’s town board recently reinstated a 2010 resolution that will allow SWP LLC to build six townhouses, with off-street parking, on Jackson Avenue in Seaford. The board voted unanimously in October to keep the change of zoning in place. The property was originally zoned as Business X and Residence B, but was granted a change of zoning to a CA Residence District on Sept. 9, 2010.

It’s been a little more than four years since the resolution was granted and it needed to reinstated, Susie Pokalsky, a town spokeswoman explained. The project is now before the Nassau County Planning Commission to apportion the tax lots. There is no information as to when the project will break ground.

The townhouses would be located just north of the Seaford Library.

“There is an adequate amount of space to build these townhouses and if it’s done properly, I think it could be a real asset to Seaford,” said Peter Ruffner, Seaford Library Board president. “It also means there will be six more families that will use the library.”
