Gov. Former Rockville Centre resident Linda Breitstone is set to be honored at Island Harvest’s 16th annual Taste of the Harvest celebration, on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. In what has become one of Long Island’s best known, and widely attended fundraisers, the “Taste of the Harvest” will raise money to help Island Harvest in its fight against hunger on Long Island. more

On Oct. 13, the Island Park Civic Association held a meeting with local officials to address the community's concern about sex offenders temporarily living at the Long Beach Motor Inn on Austin Boulevard. Concerns arose after the civic association learned there had been four sex offenders staying at the motel over the last few months. more

Rockville Centre Cadette Girl Scout Troop 860 ran a Food Drive for Island Harvest on Sept. 20 at King Kullen on Sunrise Highway. The girls collected over 400 pounds of food for an Island Harvest Member Agency, St. Paul AME Church in Rockville Centre, which is starting a food pantry for distribution to Rockville Centre residents. more
