An air of dignity, service and honor circulated above the campfire at Levy Park and Preserve in Merrick on Saturday morning. Beside it stood Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, who recognized the Boy and Girl Scouts who reached the highest plateaus of their proud organizations – the rank of Eagle Scout and the Gold Award.

Jaclyn Stamile’s Girl Scout Gold Award Project got off to a great start at the Lynbrook Recreation Center on Sept. 11 when dozens of residents showed up to design and paint their own tile for the mosaic that will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Village of Lynbrook.
“I came to be part of the patchwork,” said one elementary school student. “I’m going to draw my school on my tile.”

On June 28, three local students were honored by the ELLM Association of Girl Scouts when they received their Gold Award. Amanda Eckert, Carrie Feltkamp and Sarah Kalny, all Lynbrook residents, completed the rigorous requirements to earn the highest honor in Girl Scouts.

Delays at local area airports didn’t stop 150 girls from traveling to countries around the globe late last month — without ever leaving Rockville Centre. A Girl Scout Gold Award Project called “International Day - Where East Meets West” was presented by village resident Caitlin Morahan, a Holy Trinity High School senior.
