There has been a recent spate of hateful incidents in Nassau County and elsewhere that make it clear that we still have a long way to go to teach ignorant adults and youths that racism, homophobia, sexism, bullying and all other forms of intolerance are offensive and unacceptable, and definitely not funny.

Nassau County Police are seeking three white males, believed to be between the ages of 15 and 16 years old, for an incident of aggravated harassment, Detective Lt. Kevin Smith said at a news conference Monday afternoon. A business owner on Bedford Avenue witnessed the teens posting stickers supporting white supremacy around Bellmore Village over the weekend.

A well-known supermarket on Dogwood Avenue in Franklin Square was the scene of vandalism early last week, when two teenagers painted a swastika on a bathroom stall with black spray paint.
