Uniondale resident Mariela Ramirez Galvez and four students from the Hempstead Union Free School District were among more than 140 Nassau BOCES Barry Tech students inducted into the National Technical Honor Society this spring.
The honor society recognizes students for academic achievement, community service and strong recommendations from their instructors. Membership is considered the nation’s highest honor for excellence in career and technical education.
Ramirez Galvez was inducted for her achievements in the Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Administration I program.
The Hempstead students recognized were:

• Wilson Guevara-Paz, Auto Collision Technician II
• Khaleel Marshall, Computer Game Design & Programming Skills I
• Dianelys Rodas Coronado, Appearance, Nail & Wax Skills I
According to Nassau BOCES, inductees demonstrated leadership, responsibility, integrity and good character while pursuing career-focused studies. The National Technical Honor Society promotes excellence in career and technical education and helps prepare students for college and the workforce.
The induction ceremony was held May 27 in Garden City and included students representing 34 Long Island school districts. Members receive benefits including letters of recommendation for employment, college admissions and scholarship opportunities, as well as diplomas and training certificates bearing the society’s official seal.
