The Long Island Children’s Museum raised more than $800,000 at its annual Cupcakes & Cocktails gala on Oct. 8, bringing together more than 350 business leaders, philanthropists and community supporters to support the museum’s educational programming and initiatives for children and families.

Held at the museum in Garden City, the event, themed “Illuminate the Power of Play,” recognized three major supporters: Bank of America, which received the Community Impact Award; the Frank and Janet DellaFera Family Foundation Trust, which received the Partner in Play Award; and The Viscardi Center, which received the Nonprofit Partner Award.

“At LICM, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn, explore, play and make wonderful memories with their family. We never know what challenges a family may be facing outside our doors, but when they’re here, we want them to enjoy being together,” said Erika Floreska, president of the museum. “Making these experiences accessible to as many families across Long Island as possible takes resources and support. Providing free and reduced-cost access comes at a real cost to LICM, and philanthropic support helps us make that commitment possible.

“The more than $800,000 raised at this year’s Cupcakes & Cocktails Gala will help us open our doors to more families, offer meaningful educational programs,” she continued. “And create opportunities for children and families to connect and make memories through play.”

Bank of America donated $50,000 during the evening. Additional donations were also made, including a contribution from museum President Erika Floreska’s mother.

The evening began with a cocktail hour before guests participated in interactive activities and attended a roughly 30-minute awards ceremony, which was met with applause throughout the room. Guests also enjoyed live music, a yo-yo performance artist and opportunities to customize candles, bracelets and body oils.

Bank of America was recognized for more than 20 years of partnership with the museum. The other honorees were acknowledged for their philanthropic support and commitment to creating opportunities for children and families.

The funds raised will support the museum’s educational programming, accessibility and inclusion initiatives, community outreach and hands-on learning experiences. The museum serves children and families from across Long Island, including those who may face financial, physical or other barriers to participation.

LICM is also preparing to introduce a new Curious George exhibit in January, adding to its collection of interactive experiences designed to encourage children’s curiosity, creativity and discovery.

“All of us were kids once, and we all have met Curious George in a book sometime,” Floreska said. “And guess what? you’re all going to meet Curious George in a new way in January.”

The museum’s next Cupcakes & Cocktails gala is scheduled for Oct. 7, 2027.
