Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks, who represents part of Uniondale and part of Hempstead joined Nassau Community College administrators on April 8 to recognize students receiving the college’s 2026 Educational Opportunity Program Academic Achievement Award, along with Nassau County Legislature citations.
Presented in partnership with the State University of New York, the Educational Opportunity Program provides academic support, access and financial assistance to students who demonstrate strong potential for college success despite financial or educational barriers.
Nicks, joined Chief Administrative Officer Maria Conzatti in celebrating the students’ academic accomplishments. The ceremony also featured performances by The Academy Charter School, Uniondale’s orchestra and dance ensemble, as well as remarks from NCC EOP alumnus David Myers.
“Nassau Community College’s EOP is more than a program – it is a community and a hub for mentorship and guidance,” Legislator Nicks said. “The pursuit of higher education can sometimes be filled with obstacles, and programs such as EOP help lighten those burdens. It was a pleasure to be part of a celebration that highlights outstanding students who have overcome so much in their educational journey.”
