For Ebony Guerrier, bringing neighbors together and giving back to the community have been at the heart of her work for more than six years. On Oct. 24, the founder of Mrs. G’s Brown Bag Charity and the Herald’s 2025 Person of the Year continued that commitment by hosting her annual Halloween Trunk or Treat for Uniondale families.

Guerrier, a mother of three and a teacher at Smith Street Elementary School has made community service a year-round mission since founding her grassroots charity in September 2020.

The annual Trunk-or-Treat tradition began during the coronavirus pandemic as a safe way for children to celebrate Halloween. Since its debut at Uniondale Avenue Park in 2020, the event has grown into a neighborhood tradition, bringing families together for Halloween fun.

This year, Uniondale Avenue Park was filled with 20 trunks wide open ready to give children all the treats they could. Families dressed up in costumes as well, a week earlier than the holiday. Families came as pumpkins, fantasy characters and more.
