Uniondale is home to many bright stars with even brighter futures ahead of them.
One Uniondale student, junior Danie Henry, has not let up in following her dreams. In fact, not many 15 year-olds know what they want to do for the rest of their lives, but that isn’t the case for Henry, who has known exactly what she has wanted to be ever since her adolescence — a broadcast journalist.
Danie has already represented Uniondale and herself on the national stage at the last Washington Journalism and Media Conference, a week-long experiential learning program for “highly engaged high school students” in Washington, D.C. in July.
But now, she will be telling her story on national television. This week, Henry was in New York City at 30 Rock filming her TV debut on the Kelly Clarkson show. Clarkson will have Henry on as a guest to spotlight her story and excellence at such a young age.
“I'm pretty excited,” she told the Herald about her soon to be appearance on TV. “I'm not nervous yet, which makes me nervous that I'm not nervous.”
But it isn’t just Henry who is excited about her future, she has an entire community and school district backing her, and they’re not nervous. “As a school community, we are tremendously proud of Danie for taking a leap of faith and following her dreams,” Uniondale high school Assistant Principal Janine Bradley said. “We have a quote here, that we expect our students to graduate ‘empowered, responsible, resilient and prepared,’ and Danie embodies all of those things.”
You can check out Danie’s appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show on Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. on NBC.
